Star Haven Save Converter

Paper Mario N64 and Paperboat (PC) saves to Star Haven (3DS) and back. Everything happens in your browser, nothing is uploaded. New: turn a ROM hack into a 3DS app.

N64 to Star Haven

  1. Drop your N64 save above and download the Star Haven save.
  2. On the SD card, back up /3ds/StarHaven/save.fla if you have one. The new file replaces every Star Haven save file.
  3. Copy the new file to /3ds/StarHaven/: save.fla if you play with the European ROM, save_us.fla with the US ROM.

Star Haven 1.1.1 and newer do this by itself: put the N64 save in /3ds/StarHaven/ as import.fla (or import.srm) and start the game. Your old saves are kept as save.fla.bak.

Star Haven to N64

Drop your Star Haven save.fla above and pick the order your emulator wants. Most use the N64 order; if your emulator shows no save, try the Project64 one. For RetroArch, take the .srm: name it like your ROM (Paper Mario (USA).srm for Paper Mario (USA).z64) and put it in RetroArch's saves folder, replacing the one there (back it up first).

The game is the same on N64 and 3DS, so files carry over as they are. A save from the European version is best used with the European ROM, and a US save with the US ROM. Virtual Console saves need to be taken out of the console with another tool first.

Paperboat

Paperboat keeps each save file in its saves folder: file0.json is File 1, file1.json File 2, and so on.

  1. To Star Haven: drop one or more of those files above. To keep the other files of a Star Haven save, drop your save_us.fla together with them; the Paperboat files replace only their own slots. Copy the new save_us.fla to /3ds/StarHaven/.
  2. To Paperboat: drop your Star Haven save_us.fla and download the files you want. Close Paperboat, put them in its saves folder, and start it again.

Paperboat is the US version, so this works with Star Haven played with the US ROM (save_us.fla). Paperboat can bring in N64 saves by itself.

ROM hacks experimental

Turns a Paper Mario ROM hack into a 3DS app for the Homebrew Launcher. The hack's code gets recompiled right here in your browser, nothing is uploaded. Made for Star Rod mods like Black Pit.

The first time, it downloads about 50 MB of tools. A computer with 8 GB of RAM or more works best, and it takes a minute or two. Hacks that only run on an emulator's interpreter core may not work.
